He was loved by baseball fans for this and had brought prestige and greatness to the New York Yankees name. Babe Ruth was a good baseball player, but many of his feats have not been published during his career. Because? Simple, Babe Ruth was considered a hero by many. It was during the Roaring Twenties that baseball recovered from the Black Sox scandal, and it was mostly attributed to their supremacy in the sport. Nothing could have hurt baseball’s supremacy as a national pastime more than scandalous news about his behavior on and off the field.
Babe Ruth lived an extravagant lifestyle. He was not a social drinker, but one who regularly visited cocktail bars. He was known for overdoing everything and was heavily criticized for it. But he didn’t mind all the negative publicity about him. Instead, he did things that were unconventional for baseball players of his time. Given the fortune that fame brought, The Babe always found time to attend programs for sick children in hospitals. He was a great admirer of children. He loved them as much as they loved him. These charitable acts redeemed him from all the bad talk about his extravagant lifestyle. He’s also been suspended a couple of times for misdemeanors and breaking certain rules under World Series and other association baseball laws. He had always had problems with self-discipline. This is evident during a game in which he threw dirt into a referee’s eye and shooed hecklers in the stands. Not to justify what he, but he was Babe Ruth, he has a right to be respected and he should have been given his due. Despite all this, Babe Ruth continued to be one of the greats.
Yes, Babe Ruth certainly lived a life of excess. Even his home runs were depicted as a reflection of his lifestyle. However, he lived a life that, he can proudly say, he enjoyed to the fullest.
