Comparison of games for children of the past with the present

While buying some games as gifts from Angel Tree, I realized that many games nowadays are electronic games. It made me start thinking about my own childhood days and the games we used to play.

Since we were poor, many of our games were free or very cheap. I remember one of our favorite indoor games was playing a card game called “Go Fishing” or “Go Fish”. It is usually played with two to five players. Usually both adults and children would join in a game of Go Fish.

Using a standard deck of cards, 7 cards are dealt to each of the players. The rest of the deck is spread out in the center of the table. The first player will ask another player to give him their cards of a particular rank. For example, “Give me all your Queens.” The requesting player cannot request a card that he does not have in his hand.

If the requested player has cards of the requested value, he hands them over and the requesting player wins another turn. If the asked player does not have any cards of the requested rank, he says “go fishing” or “go fishing”. The requesting player draws a card from the well in the center of the table.

When a player has four cards of a certain value, then he has “a book” and places that book face up in front of him on the table. When a player runs out of cards, he draws a card from the pool and the game continues until all cards are gone from the pool. At that point the game ends and the player with the most books wins.

We had several different card games that we could play with the same deck of cards.

When the weather was nice and we could play outside, we would entertain ourselves with a neighborhood baseball or softball game or grab a stick and take out a game of hopscotch in the dirt or on a sandy area.

We lived in a rural area and our preference was to play outside. We would walk through the woods and go down to the nearby pool to swim on a hot day.

Today kids start very young with learning DVDs, TV entertainment and as they get older there are all the video games that consume hours and hours of their time.

That is not to say that these games cannot be shared between adults and children. For example, Mario Kart Wii is a game that is loved by both racing fan parents and children.

Learning DVDs can help a child get a head start on things like their AB-C before they even start kindergarten.

And even before that, parents can get an entertaining DVD that helps the child to learn to go to the bathroom.

Little girls still have dolls; they are simply more sophisticated. Today’s dolls are almost like a real baby. Years ago, families had so many children that I guess we just had something real to learn about what babies really do.

Little kids still have toy trucks, but I guess you don’t have to push them by hand anymore.

There’s nothing too good or bad about old and new, however sometimes it’s fun to just look back and compare. It’s even fun to share some of the older games with your kids and play them together.

Consumer Feedback on Fireworks: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Fireworks for sale, we’ve all seen the signs. At full volume saying come in, we have just what you are looking for. As we drive by and it gets to be summer or close to the holidays like the 4th of July, fireworks shops start popping up everywhere. Signage along the road says Black Cat Fireworks Sold Here, you can’t miss it. Black Cat is a well-known brand that has been around for years. Another sign that comes to mind is “Excalibur” with an image of the sword that is hard to miss. Now that is a good one to expose. A person who doesn’t know what “Excalibur” really is, probably wouldn’t put the two together. “World’s Best Selling Artillery Shells” is an airboat shell that is loaded one at a time into what is known as a firing tube. One of the most eye-catching items out there today are “Buy One, Get One Free” signs. Is it really a buy one get one free program? Or did they double the price to make you think you get something extra when you buy from them? Well, we bought that program, and we’ll give you the details a little later in this article. Other fireworks stores advertise up to 65% off, but what they didn’t tell you is that you have to buy a large quantity. How many thousands of dollars must he spend to get that 65% discount? Yes, these are all tricks of the trade, taking advantage of those who only go out and buy fireworks once or twice a year. Are there really good buys in fireworks? The answer is yes”.

For those of you who want to shop from the comfort of your home or office, where to buy fireworks online is really the cat’s meow. The best fireworks to buy for true pyro enthusiasts are aerial devices. Starting with shrapnel or artillery shells. These shells are a “must have” for those looking for the biggest fireworks they can buy. Each projectile has a different effect when it explodes in the air. Most good boat shells will travel up to 200+ feet in the air. That’s almost as tall as a twenty-story building. Today, there are several large canister shells on the market. Of course, “Excalibur” clearly advertises that it is the best shell on the market. There are several online fireworks stores that have high quality canister cartridges, you can always buy them at any time of the year.

On our list are multi-take aerial repeater cakes. These items are made from a series of tubes loaded with pyrotechnic components with different effects or multiple shots of the same effects. It’s like a fireworks show in one package. You light a fuse and let the show begin. Firework cakes come in various sizes. The most popular among consumer fireworks is the small but mighty 200 gram cake. These are the fries in the aerial fireworks category. They work great for the beginning of your fireworks display or when added to the end. There are many to choose from on the market today. Some with flying fish, whistles, peonies, crackles and more.

The big shots of consumer fireworks would have to be the 500-gram cakes. These fireworks make the show happen. The essentials at the end of your show. The big ones are the two and 3 inch cakes. Most of them only have eight or nine shots in the cake, and they’re great. These firework cakes are loaded to the maximum load allowed by law for consumers. When you shop for fireworks stores online, you’ll find plenty to choose from in this category, and the lowest prices are available online. Still a bit expensive, but for a successful display, it is necessary.

In the perhaps category, you may want to place what are called “tracer candles” at the beginning of your fireworks display. These are an awesome addition to any small show and the crowds seem to love them. Roman candles are just one option for most displays.

Last but not least are the items like smoke effects, punks, colored flares, which aren’t really meant for a fireworks show, but are a great way for kids to enjoy the beginning of what is yet to come when the “show begins”.

Top Ten Public/Semi-Private Courses in Tennessee

We have spent a lot of time golfing in Tennessee and through our travels have found great golf courses available in Tennessee. Here is our ranking of public or semi-private golf courses in Tennessee:

  1. Toqua Golf Course – Blessed with a great location, golfers can expect to use every club in their bag at Toqua. The first nine feature some narrow holes that you might want to nail with an iron off the tee, while the back nine have some of the best views of the lake on holes 14 and 15. There’s not much undulation on the greens, but the Challenging approach shots provide enough difficulty to make this our no. 1 run at Tennessee. Toqua can be long off the tips with par 4s like the 9th hole that will require you to hit a big drive off the tee to have a chance of hitting the green in 2 shots. The par 3 No. 3 hole from the tips reaches over 200 yards over a portion of the lake to a large green that can be difficult to match if the flag is on the right back of the green.
  2. River course of the Seville golf club – Sevierville now has 36 holes of golf, and while there have been some changes to the course, we only see a single course that challenges golfers on every hole, from tee to green. Aptly named, the River Course features water on 80% of its holes with elevated greens that drop steeply into the water. Holes 3 through 5 are located on an island in the middle of the river, and many shots require precise iron play through the hazards. Holes 11 through 14 are similar to its sister Highlands Course, where the 13th hole is a 185-yard shot to a drop-down green that can be difficult to hold if the pin is out in front.
  3. HeatherhurstBrae – One of the most intimidating tee holes with an approach shot over water to a halfway green surrounded by water. Heatherhurst is unique with Zoysia grass that is a joy to hit and 3 second long that can play long even off the white tees. This course has it all, from elevation changes with beautiful mountain scenery to water feature holes like the long par 5 number 10. Heatherhurst is stunning from start to finish with challenging greens, beautiful fairways and great views of the Cumberland Plateau. .
  4. River Islands Golf Club – Probably the most exclusive golf courses in Tennessee. Hole number 3 is an intimidating par 3 hole that has golfers hitting diagonally to a green through one of the 3 forks in the French Broad River. At this point you’re on one of the river islands and don’t hit solid ground again until the 17th hole. Like Heatherhurst, River Islands have carpet-like fairways with Zoysia grass that are great to play on, but be prepared because you need to hit well from tee to green to get good results on this course. River Islands is a true links style course that starts and ends at the clubhouse with some small greens that can be difficult to hold on your approach shot. This course is a must if visiting the Knoxville – Pigeon Forge area of Tennessee.
  5. Rarity Pointe Golf Course – In our opinion, one of the most difficult courses in Tennessee with dramatic elevation changes on several holes, such as hole no. 2 par 4. The par 5 of hole number 3 has elevated tees that will take you to a multi-level fairway with a lot of undulation. Rarity also has several long par 3s that are protected by bunkers with beautifully contoured greens. The course is always in great shape and the fairways are forgiving but require a great long iron game.
  6. Hermitage Golf Course President’s Reserve – Hermitage President’s Reserve offers challenges to all levels of golfers with holes that rest near the Cumberland River and natural wetlands. One of the best golf courses in Nashville, President’s Reserve has a tremendous layout that will have you using all your clubs in the bag during the round. Recognized as one of the Top 10 Golf Courses in Tennessee by Golf Digest.
  7. Bear Trace in Harrison Bay – One of the best dirt tracks we’ve seen. Chickamauga Lake runs the length of the course allowing 12 holes to touch the water. Bear Trace has some heavily wooded areas, and while the water can be seen from many of the holes, it doesn’t really come into play on many holes. Fantastic views and excellent conditions will find you coming back here for many rounds.
  8. Kahite Golf Course – Links style course with a unique par 6 on the 9th hole. Fairly open course, but can offer some challenge with its length from the tips, as well as elevated greens that are well protected with 90 bunkers throughout the course. Kahite is always in great shape, the tees are perfect and one of the best layouts you’ll find in East Tennessee.
  9. cattail golf course – Nestled in the shadow of picturesque Bays Mountain, Cattails’ gently rolling terrain and memorable layout have a wide variety of holes including a moderate number of sand bunkers, six beautiful lakes and large putting surfaces. The par 71 golf course offers several risk-reward par 5s on the back nine, and features many scenic holes that will challenge golfers of all skill levels. The course’s name is appropriate given the number of cattail plants that reside along several holes with water in the front and back nine.
  10. Gaylord Springs Golf Course – Gaylord Springs is a par 72 Scottish golf course that borders the Cumberland River with picturesque limestone-carved cliffs. This is a challenging course that has hosted Champions Tour events and has received many accolades for a superior quality course. The signature hole on the course is hole 4 which houses a century old spring house, and there are plenty of water challenges on several of its holes. Tree-lined fairways and risk-reward holes will offer enjoyable play at this 220-acre venue.

To complete our list, we weight golf course design 70% and conditions 30% to rank each golf course.

It’s fun and something you can do with what you can find around your house.

Clue game suspects

Let’s say Professor Plum and Miss Scarlet. It’s not that hard to find a Professor Plum costume in your closet. Think of a nerd college professor. You will need to wear a purple suit that is a little tight on you and add thick glasses to complete the look. Using your brand and hairsprays, make him look like a mad scientist or something.

Meanwhile, Miss Scarlet is young, witty and attractive. She wears a tight red dress, stiletto heels and looks sexy. Her character knows that she is pretty and uses it to her advantage.

80’s years

The 80s were very colorful and it was the decade of punk rock. You and your wife can be Michael Jackson and Madonna. If you’re dressing like the late King of Pop, you’ll need to wear skinny black pants that are a bit short or you can just roll them up. You’ll also need a high white sock with black leather shoes, a white t-shirt layered with a red or black long-sleeved shirt, open. Then her other signature accessories include her aviator sunglasses, her black fedora, and of course her sequined glove.

Go back to the 80’s and become a “material girl” this Halloween. During that time, Madonna set a trend. For a Madonna costume, you’ll need a camisole-style top with a black push-up bra under it, a ruffled lace skirt, a headpiece, gloves, and a pearl necklace. Don’t forget your red lipstick and put on some heavy makeup. Do something with your hair and make it look messy, and then tie it to the side. Put on some purple leggings and lots of bracelets.

Planning Your Child’s Christian-Themed Birthday Party

Walk into any party supply store and you’ll find dozens of themed birthday party ideas, from American Idol to Zoology. But the thing is, they’ve all been done a thousand times before. Maybe you don’t want the same old, the same old. You want something different. More importantly, she would like the theme to reflect her Christian beliefs, which Hannah Montana or Tony Hawk just can’t do.

Why not throw your son or daughter a Christian-themed party? Since you probably won’t find these themes at party supply stores, you’ll need a little more planning. But with a little thought and a little extra time, you’re sure to end up with a fun and unique party that’s a hit with kids and parents alike.

Here are some ideas to get your creativity flowing:

NOAH’S ARK. Do you know someone who has a boat that you can borrow or rent for the day? Invite your child’s friends to a Noah’s Ark party. Dress your child up as Noah and have guests come dressed as their favorite animal. No boat available? No problem! Create your own boat in the basement or in the party room. Decorate with cutout animals, rainbows, and other Noah’s Ark accessories.

Another option: If it’s a summer birthday and the weather permits, hand out raincoats and turn on the sprinklers for forty minutes of fun in the “rain.”

PRINCESS. Who needs to dress up as Cinderella or Snow White? Your little girl is a daughter of the True King, so treat her like the true princess that she is! Invite all her friends to the palace for a royal celebration. Have plenty of dresses, high heels, and elbow-length white gloves on hand to dress up. Tiara are definitely required.

BIBLICAL CHARACTER. Ideal for any age. Have guests dress up as their favorite biblical character. For the first game, play “ten questions” and let the children ask “yes or no” questions to see if they can figure out which Bible character their friends represent. If you prefer not to play dress up, one game option is to pin the name of a character from the Bible on the back of each guest. Then have guests mingle and ask questions about their character to try and guess who they are.

THE INCREDIBLE CAREER OF THE CHURCH. This is a great party idea for older kids who can drive. If you are a minor, designate a driver for each team car. Have teams race (within the speed limit, of course!) to a few different churches in the area and complete tasks, just like they would for a scavenger hunt. They may have to get a newsletter from the secretary, take a digital photo of a staff member, or get the name of the youth pastor. If churches are closed, request a digital photo of the church as proof that they did their homework.

POPULAR VIDEO CHARACTERS. With so many Christian videos on the market, some kids are hell-bent on a specific character party. 1-2-3 Penguins, Hermie, Adventures in Odyssey, and Life at the Pond are all video-based themes that you can base your party around. And of course, Veggie Tales is one of those Christian themes you’ll find in the average party store.

Use these ideas as a springboard for your own creativity. Plan a party for your child that the kids will not only enjoy, but will talk about for a long time.

How to use a man to get what you want – 7 cool tricks to turn him into putty in your hands

You don’t have to be particularly scheming and manipulative to get what you want from a man. You can still succeed in getting away with it by trying these simple tricks that will turn it to putty in your hands!

Motivate him to do what you want.

By encouraging him, praising him, and persuading him, you will motivate him to give you what he needs. Reward him generously when he fulfills your wishes so he will want to do it again and again.

Ancient Gaelic women – A legacy full of independence and strength – "knives in their thighs"

Gain a new insight into ancient women and how modern women reflect and project old strengths and virtues

Because most people learn their story at the end of a sociology class, or from a poisonous comment in a political seminar, many people see the world like this:

“The Greeks were hostile men, who loved each other’s company more than their wives. The Roman Catholics were “puftas” who despised women. And before that, women were subservient throughout human history to that girls right now can feel brave, angry and free?

the gaelic woman

First of all, the women’s story is much more fascinating than the previous characterization. But the point of this article is that ancient European Gaelic culture has been found to be much more interesting. First of all, it has been customary to “barbarize” Gaelic culture. This is the habit of the Victor in History: the victor is Romanism and Hellenistic superiority. A study of art, weaponry and lore and archeology is revealing a very sophisticated and interconnected advanced culture that simply had an emphasis on ORAL rather than WRITTEN lore.

Gaelic woman could:

sue for divorce,

own land,

Purchase and sale of portions of real estate.

Gaelic woman could be:

Priestesses, Seers, Healers and Prophetesses.

And if they wanted to, and had the skill and leadership, they could qualify to be WARRIORS.

Boudicca

Boudicca was the wife of Prasutagus, who was the chief of the Iceni tribe in eastern England, in what is now Norfolk and Suffolk.

In 43 CE, the Romans invaded Britain and most of the Celtic (Gaelic) tribes were forced to submit. However, the Romans allowed two Celtic kings to retain some of their traditional power; one was Prasutagus.

The Roman occupation brought with it an increase in Roman settlements, military presence, and attempts to suppress Celtic religious culture. There were big economic changes, including heavy taxes and money lending.

In 47 AD C., the Romans forced the Irenians to disarm, which generated resentment. Prasutagus had received a grant from the Romans, but the Romans later redefined this as a loan. When Prasutagus died in 60 CE, he left half of his kingdom to Emperor Nero to pay off this debt.

The Romans came to collect, but instead of settling for half the kingdom, they took control of it. To humiliate the former rulers, the Romans publicly beat Boudicca, raped her two daughters, seized the wealth of many Iceni, and sold much of the royal family into slavery. The Celtic tribes gathered in that region planned to revolt and expel the Romans.

Led by Boudicca, some 100,000 British attacked Camulodunum (now Colchester), where the Romans had their main center of government. Boudicca’s army burned Camulodunum to the ground; only the Roman temple remained. Boudicca’s army immediately headed for the largest city in the British Isles, Londinium (London). Suetonius strategically abandoned the city, and Boudicca’s army burned Londinium and massacred the 25,000 inhabitants who had not fled. Archaeological evidence of a burnt ash layer shows the extent of the destruction.

Boudicca and her army then marched on Verulamium (St. Albans), a city largely populated by British who had cooperated with the Romans, and were killed when the city was destroyed. Boudicca fought one more battle, although his precise location is not certain. Boudicca’s army attacked uphill and, exhausted, hungry, it was easy for the Romans to defeat them. Roman troops of 1,200 defeated Boudicca’s army of 100,000, killing 80,000 for his own loss of 400.

What happened to Boudicca is uncertain. It is said that he returned to his home territory and took poison to avoid Roman capture.

Boudicca’s story was almost forgotten until Tacitus’ Annals was rediscovered in 1360. Her story became popular during the reign of another English queen who led an army against foreign invasion, Queen Elizabeth I.

A sharp dagger strapped to her inner thigh

The classically educated grandmother was chatting on a crisp spring morning with her 3 granddaughters. “Now, my dears, I want you to see how the old Irish girls protected themselves.” She propped her leg up on a chair and pulled her dress up above her knee. She took a sharp knife from the kitchen drawer. “To protect her virtue, old Irish maidens strapped a knife like this to their inner thighs.”

One of the “correct” moms corrected the cranky old grandmother. Her daughter stood up to protect her grandmother from her. “Mother, we know we can’t do that today, but you know what, this makes me feel differently about my former Irish cousins. They were well prepared to meet all the challenges life threw at them.”

Same season enjoyed by their women

When the ancient Romans encountered the Celtic tribes that inhabited northern Europe, in an area north of the Alps, and stretching from Turkey in the east to Ireland in the west, they were impressed with the equal status they enjoyed. their women.

Celtic women enjoyed an unusual degree of freedom by known standards in the ancient and medieval worlds.

They were recognized for their individuality and courage, and were particularly praised for their qualities of self-respect and independence.

Celtic women could inherit land and titles, just like their male brothers.

A woman could serve as head of the clan and go into battle, just as men did, in time of war.

The ferocity of Celtic women warriors is the stuff of legend.

The Romans were amazed at the sexual freedom enjoyed by Celtic women, who extended what the Celts euphemistically called “the friendship of the thighs.”

The true Roman matrons, with the false standards of “respectability” imposed on them by their men, found lovers among those who were willing to enjoy secret relationships.

matrilineal

Due, perhaps, to the sexual freedom of the Celts, succession within their tribes and clans was matrilineal because, in the midst of so much general promiscuity, it could be difficult to determine who had been the father of a particular child.

A Celtic woman could divorce her husband if he did not support her or treat her with respect, if he was impotent, homosexual, sterile or gossipy about her sex life.

I could quit if he was fat, snoring, or just plain icky.” from A Toast to the Lassie by Carson C. Smith.
When you reflect on the challenges faced by modern women, there is a similarity to the broad and challenging world of Gaelic or Celtic women (labels vary depending on cultural and historical nomenclature and the point of view of historians) in their world in their epoch. Her villages were often seasonal and had to be very flexible, as well as having the ability to function in society, in love, in leadership, in hunting, and in war.

The limiting way in which women have been studied for the exemplars of the Roman and Greek worlds tells women that those societies may or may not fairly represent women’s roles, but it is definitely wise to work on understanding those old worlds. with a new breadth and a new perspective. new desire to look again at the previous copies. There are cases that must be presented on the path that women have followed and how the great cultural and religious influences have impeded the development of women. However, if we allow this most recent “politically infused” commentary to lose us thousands of years of history in Europe’s wilderness, we are all missing something. When women do the heroic things they have done, perhaps we should look further back, to the hills of Europe, where fearless women forged their lives for hundreds of generations.

Change your breathing by trying the sun and moon breathing method

Try the alternate breathing below, also known as sun and moon breathing.

Don’t be afraid of funny words, ‘Prana’ is simply the life force that surrounds us, which is divided into ‘Pingala’, its positive side, and ‘Ida’, its negative side. One of the goals of Yoga is to balance its opposing currents in the body, which produces a state of perfect spiritual and mental balance. When you breathe through the right side of the nose it is called sun breathing, if it is through the left side it is called moon breathing.

Alternate breathing is holding the breath steadily through each nostril step by step. Sit cross-legged on a seat or floor with your back straight and your head level. Close your eyes, then close your left nostril with your left thumb as you inhale slowly and deeply through your right nostril. Take a deep breath and hold it for two seconds. Place the last two fingers of your left hand and then exhale slowly through the left nostril. Part of this exercise is to naturally pause your breath, and when you feel the urge to inhale, keep your right nostril closed and breathe only through your left nostril. Take a deep breath and hold it for two seconds.

Close the left nostril, and then exhale slowly through the right. Now a cycle has been completed. Those new to Pranayama should start slowly with two rounds and build up to 6 rounds per day by adding one per week. When doing this exercise at different times of the day, always try to adjust your posture to face the direction of the sun. This routine should be done early in the morning looking towards the east, then at noon look towards the median, when the sun sets look towards the west and then at night look towards the north.

Begin with BREATH OF SUN AND MOON and then go for three or four full breaths to create the space that will give you peace and tranquility in both mind and body.

Although I have mentioned the physical aspects of yoga here, you must remember that all yoga exercises will always affect all parts: physical, spiritual and mental.

Once you’ve done the sun and moon breathing and have some rhythm and balance, move on to the next step, which is to increase your exhalations to double the length of your inhalations. If you breathe in to a count of four, you breathe out to a count of eight. Four is just an example for your inhalation count, as your inhalation count should be about your own individual needs, ability, and comfort level. If you feel the tension recede, you are pushing yourself too hard. Do not push yourself when performing this or other Yoga exercises. It’s useless at best, but also possibly harmful. After a few days of practicing to control the breath, the next phase is to steadily extend the breath hold until it reaches the level of gasping. You should inhale for four, hold for four, then exhale for a count of eight.

Once again, you need to calibrate this count according to your own abilities.

This is the Sun and Moon breath in its simplest form with which we bring calm to both mind and body. Almost superhuman discipline is required for the advanced forms of this particular exercise, which are practiced in connection with the awakening of a strange bodily force called Kundalini, the Serpent Power. This can be briefly described as the Divine Power of Knowledge and Wisdom from which, through civilization, Man has separated.

Every man has the potential of divinity within him, no matter how far he has strayed from the Divine path because the Kundalini lies coiled at the base of the spine, dormant but not dead.

Implementing and Maintaining Lean Standard Work: Challenges for Manufacturing Managers and Employees

Standard work (occasionally called standardized work) is a critical piece in the implementation of lean manufacturing programs. It helps stabilize a process and provides a foundation for continuous improvement. However, no matter how good something is, it always comes at a cost. For Standard Work, the price comes in the form of resentment and the subsequent lack of engagement it can cause in some employees.

In fact, a single aspect of the standard job can increase job satisfaction for some people and, at the same time, reduce it for others. Why? Because people are unique. For example, those who love predictability and structure thrive on standard work. But those who are more independent, free spirits, dislike feeling micromanaged and resent feeling forced to do their jobs in specific ways.

So how can leaders make standard work more attractive to employees? A good way to start is to make sure the standard work is structured in a way that makes it easy for team members to get help when they need it. Suppose manufacturing managers are doing a lot of things right:

andon lights are in place to call for help, and teams are encouraged to use them
there is a definite sequence of events that happen when the lights are turned on
leaders enforce the process and make sure people respond as needed
there are team leaders who can hover and offer assistance when help is needed

Despite these efforts, employees can still feel that they are not getting the help they need when there is a problem on the shop floor. Big problems tend to get a lot of attention, but often the hiccups that frustrate employees are the little things that cost a few minutes here and there. It’s about the little problems that seem to happen randomly in Lean production. A screw is threaded crosswise. A bolt is dropped in a hard-to-reach place. Murphy (remember Murphy’s Law: What can go wrong, will) loves hanging out at the shop.

The frustrating part for an employee comes when there is no way to get help to get back on track. Even if someone from a support team shows up right away, an extra set of hands (if the standard work is poorly structured) may not be able to speed things up. The helper often comes to help and may do little more than observe, offer advice, or get tools for a person. None of these things, in most cases, will prevent a production stoppage. Instead, standard work should be organized so that an assistant can pop in and jump right into a task to keep things flowing. It is much easier to do than you imagine. The goal is simply to structure the process so that the last few tasks are independent of the rest of the work. That means:

  • Put all multi-operator work first. That way, if one person falls behind, the other person won’t lose their workflow out of sync.
  • Put the most complicated tasks first, so if there is a problem, the operator can turn on the and in as soon as possible.
  • Don’t put all your freelance work at the same station. For example, instead of one station applying all the decals to a product at the end of an assembly line, distribute the work among the stations. That job can likely be done at any time and gives a floater something to do when it shows up.
  • Put the tasks with the lowest quality parts first. If apart is bad, there is time to get a replacement. If it is identified just before a line change, there is little time to resolve the problem. (Of course, if you know about an ongoing problem, you should be working on fixing it, too.)
  • Start with all subassemblies completed. End the loop by building the substitutes for the next turn in line. If an operator falls behind, an assistant can come and build the subs, buying time for the operator.
  • Make sure tools are available for the assistant to work at the same time as the operator. The helper shouldn’t have to wait because a $5 tool isn’t available.
  • The assistant must be trained in the support task. She has to be able to intervene smoothly. She must practice these tasks for each station she supports, so there is never any doubt and no risk of poor quality.

With these fairly simple steps, employees working in production jobs can feel supported. This will make the beat seem more manageable if they feel like there’s a pressure valve (which works!) when things get a little rough. If employees feel supported, they are much more likely to support standard work in return.
