Why laughter is good for business

Does anyone over 45 remember “Benny Hill”? The other night, I was watching a rerun of the “Benny Hill” comedy show and found myself laughing and enjoying the antics and jokes. Afterwards, I felt completely rejuvenated and in a good mood. I felt compelled to take on any project with enthusiasm even if it was a Sunday.

There is no doubt that laughter is very good for us. When we laugh, our bodies release endorphins that can reduce stress and improve mood, but that’s just the beginning. Studies show that people who laugh a lot heal faster, feel better, and have fewer health problems, such as lower inflammation in the body and lower blood pressure.

So how does all of this relate to being good for business? Think about it! When you feel good and have optimal well-being, your energy can be sustained to be more productive and efficient. It also helps to align with your passion and take massive action towards the results you want. Finally, a good joke for a client or prospect that makes them laugh lowers their guard, establishes a connection with you, and can lead to more business with them. It earns one’s trust and helps build credibility over time for sustainable success.

Laughing at ourselves has a positive effect on us and those around us. When we laugh at our own mistakes, we lighten the load for everyone and give others the freedom to be themselves and make mistakes too. Sharing laughter nourishes our relationships, making us feel closer and more comfortable with those with whom we laugh.

Laughter has the power to encourage others in times of difficulty, which also includes business. It brings people together, reaffirms hope, and instills a sense of community. This is extremely important because many people go through trials and tribulations in their personal and business lives. This can have a negative impact on production and efficiency in the workplace. Laughter helps offset this and bring you back to the same level, if not more, when it comes to production and being more efficient.

Laughter is even good for our appearance, as it helps relax our facial muscles. And any “frown lines” that may appear over the years give your face a friendlier, kinder look than a frown or scowl. A warm welcoming smile on the glowing appearance of your face establishes an instant connection in business and lays the foundation for credibility and trust.

I hope you take advantage of the many benefits of laughter by sharing a joke and laughing a lot with your business associates. But beware. Laughter is contagious. You could start an epidemic, which is a good thing here. Simply put, laughter is good for business.

Deductibles In Depth: Understanding Medical Deductibles

A deductible is a fixed amount of medical expenses that a patient must pay to be eligible for insurance benefits under an insurance program. What does that mean exactly? It means that before an insurance company can start paying a patient, the patient must meet their deductible. How does a patient meet her deductible? Many people get very confused as to how this is actually achieved.

In order for a patient to meet their deductibles, claims must be filed and processed by the patient’s insurance company. When claims are processed, the amount applied toward the deductible is the allowed amount for the services being billed. So, for example, if the claim is for an office visit, 99213 for $80, and the insurance allows $55 for a 99213, then $55 will apply to the patient’s deductible, not $80.

Deductibles can range from $50 to $5,000. If it is a private plan purchased by the patient, the deductible depends on the plan the patient purchases. Lower deductible plans cost more than higher deductible plans. If the insurance plan is through an employer, the deductible is determined by the employer and how much it pays for the insurance plan.

Some people mistakenly think that the patient has to pay the doctor the deductible amount and then the claims that are filed will be paid by the insurance company. They do not realize that the insurance company must receive the patient’s claims to apply them to the deductible in order for the deductible to be met.

The best thing to do is call the insurance company before seeing the patient and ask about the amount of the patient’s deductible and whether any have already been met. You should also remember that you do not know what other providers the patient may have seen and whether or not a claim was filed for those services.

Generally, you will need to file the claim and wait for the insurance company to process it and apply it to the patient’s deductible before you can bill the patient. Many providers like to bill the patient up front when they know the patient has a deductible that has not been met. This is not always the best thing to do, as many factors can affect the amount a patient owes.

For example, if you call when the patient arrives and are told they have a $200 deductible and it hasn’t been met yet, and the patient is being seen for an office visit and urinalysis. The office visit is $80 and the urinalysis is $15 for a total of $95. You make the patient pay the $95 since the deductible is not met. However, you file the claim and the insurance company allows $60 for the office visit and $12 for the urinalysis. That’s only $72. If you go with that insurance company, you can only charge the patient $72 or you are breaking their contract. You have already collected $95, so now the patient has overpaid.

Another problem with billing in advance is that a claim from another provider can defeat your claim. If you call when the patient arrives and are told the deductible has not been met, you bill the patient in advance. Then your billing person is sick for a couple of days, or busy doing other work and the claim doesn’t file until a couple of weeks after the patient visit. (Trust me, this happens often.) Meanwhile, the patient goes to Urgent Care, where he files his claims electronically the same day the patient is seen and his claim outweighs yours. Now the patient’s deductible is suddenly met and the insurance company pays their claim. Again, another overpayment.

If a patient has a deductible, generally once the deductible is met, the insurance company will pay a percentage of the allowed amount and the patient will have coinsurance. (We’ll talk about coinsurance next month.) Many plans today move away from the deductible/coinsurance and toward HMO/PPO plans that have set copays. However, it’s still crucial that you understand exactly how the whole deductible thing works. There are still a number of plans with deductibles, including traditional Medicare plans.

Professional education institutes

Vocational education essentially means vocational education that develops the basic skills required to perform jobs in technical fields. There are many career education institutes that guide students who are looking for the right opportunities to enhance their careers.

People exploring different fields of work, changing careers, or simply looking for a career description receive information on different career paths. Qualified counselors or specialists at vocational education institutes inform potential students about various colleges and institutions that offer vocational courses that can prepare them for fruitful careers. They also inform students about financial aid programs from various sources and summer work programs, both locally and nationally.

Professional education resources that offer a wide variety of books, pamphlets, audiovisuals, electronic databases, software, and periodicals in circulation. They help students deal with job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, choosing career choices, employment, and preparing for academic tests. They conduct pre-employment tests to determine the ability and personality of the candidates to analyze if they are suitable for a particular job.

Professional education institutes also provide assistance to people who are not satisfied with their career or choice of work. An evaluation is carried out through a series of questions. Responses to questions are assessed and students provide appropriate advice to help them take effective steps in planning a job or career change.

There are career center websites that provide details on career exploration, careers and education, job opportunities, trade and technical schools, and career-related referral resources. People can register and seek the necessary guidance from professionals. The sites also provide information on various career descriptions. They also provide information on educational sites related to a particular career, such as tutorials, directories, industry news, glossaries, and associated scholars. Vocational education institutes have proven to be a boon for people who are looking for suitable jobs.

The Power of Self-Directed IRAs

The Self-Directed IRA allows investors to purchase (i.e., buy and hold/repair and flip) property with tax-free dollars within a Traditional IRA and collect rent or earnings from a flip, tax-free, until realized. distributions at retirement. The Roth IRA allows earnings and rent to remain tax-free for life. Once Roth IRA distributions are made at retirement, only the earnings after the distributions are taxed. The power of tax-free dollars provides tremendous growth potential for your personal real estate investment portfolio and typical returns of 10-14%, including asset appreciation.

A self-directed IRA allows you to invest your IRA savings in what you know and understand. Some examples include, but are not limited to: rental properties, hard money loans, wholesale, buy-fix-trade, mobile homes, and auctions. These are just a few examples of real estate investments that can greatly increase the buying power of your IRA.

What is a Traditional Self-Directed IRA?

Depending on the amount of any contribution you make to your IRA, you can deduct that amount from your earned income. These contributions are tax-free until you withdraw those funds, generally starting at age 59½ to avoid early withdrawal penalties. You can convert your Traditional IRA to a Roth IRA at any time, but you must pay taxes on the conversion amount.

What is a self-directed Roth IRA?

A Roth IRA contribution is an after-tax contribution to your IRA. However, any earnings made within a Roth IRA are tax-free for life. An example would be that rental income from the purchase of a rental property (that was purchased using Roth IRA contributions) would be tax-free as long as that property remains in the Roth IRA.

Are there IRA investment restrictions?

Yes, they are called Prohibited Transactions which include:

1. Life insurance premiums

2. Collectibles such as: works of art, antiques, stamps, etc.

3. Carry out commercial transactions and/or mix assets or services with a “Disqualified Person”

Who is a Disqualified Person?

Virtually everyone in your or your spouse’s vertical family tree: parents, grandparents, children (and their spouses), and grandchildren (and their spouses).

This opportunity is for everyone, just take the first step

Many people are well versed in investing, selling and renting property. However, there are those who would like to invest in Real Estate but hesitate to take the first step. A recommendation for these people would be to contact a Wholesaler who will work with you both in investment projects (flips) and in purchases of rental properties. They must also provide property management services, typically a fee of 10% of monthly rental income, and may work with your IRA management group. I work with Alpine Capital Solutions in Indianapolis.

So look at your current returns on your IRA and ask yourself, can I do better? Choosing to control your own investments through real estate could significantly increase your retirement savings and give you more opportunities to enjoy those golden years.

Do you feel like a mouse in a wheel?

A few weeks ago, an exhausted coaching client told me that he felt like he was spinning like a “mouse on a wheel,” running hard but getting nowhere. This ‘mouse in a wheel’ analogy is so well used that I visualized exactly what he meant.

I then shared with him something that has been going on at home recently.

Last Christmas my son received 2 mice; (thanks Santa). These 2 little mice ran for hours on their squeaky little wheel, busy as “mice on a wheel”.

For months they did this.

Then I noticed one night a few weeks ago that one of the mice climbed up the side of the wheel, balancing beautifully as he went and sat on top of the wheel perfectly balanced looking down at the cage; just surveying his territory.

My surprise was compounded when I saw her go down the same way. She then held the wheel as the now elderly friend of hers got on.

They hadn’t just progressed beyond mindlessly spinning their wheel to going out and taking stock of their situation. The mice worked together helping each other.

I told the story to my coaching client and he easily understood the message.

He also got his own answers very quickly when I asked the questions;

If a mouse on a wheel can get off and balance AND help a friend do the same; What do you need to do to get off YOUR wheel?

What do you see when you take stock from a new higher perspective?

Who can you ask to “hold the wheel” to help you get to the new perspective?

If a mouse can learn to stop spinning on its wheel; What prevents you from learning the same?

The Most Popular iPad and iPhone Apps for Video Production

Since the release of the iPhone and later the iPad, there has been a continuous rollout of apps or apps targeting the video production market. Some have come and gone, but many have now become an indispensable part of our kit, providing convenience and in some cases replacing high-priced production gear.

Preproduction

Some of the most useful applications have been designed for use in pre-production and planning. It often takes the place of expensive desktop software and, in some cases, adds additional ease of use.

Scripting apps like script pro allow users to write scripts with the help of popup menus and shortcuts right on their iPad.

It is also compatible with industry standard software such as final draft. It also makes sense when connecting an external keyboard to the iPad and removing the onscreen keyboard for an even bigger view.

Another extremely useful app is the Hitchcock Storyboard Composer. This is a very well thought out storyboard app that allows the user to upload various images from their libraries, add music, notes, and of course shot descriptions. It also emulates camera movements such as pans, tilts, and dolly movements. Your storyboard can be exported as a PDF or even played back as a movie.

Production

Perhaps some of the most popular applications are those used for production, such as the film slate or DSLR slate, which replace the need for expensive clapperboards.

The movie slate app does everything you need a clapper to do and then some. You can create comprehensive voice and image annotations, export reports, and ingest shot data into editing platforms like Final Cut Pro. You can also sync timecode between cameras, including other iPads or iPhones, with time on a clock, and even sync with a song from iTunes, if you are recording a music video.

Telepromptor apps are also gaining popularity. The promtor app allows you to edit the text of the presentation and has a customizable text scrolling screen where you can adjust the size and speed. Another useful feature is the ability to sync between iPads so your presenter can talk to multiple cameras displaying the same text.

There are also several editing packages available, such as iMovie, a portable version of the popular Mac desktop software. It’s surprisingly flexible with many of the usual features. Users can edit existing images or record more with the iPad camera’s built-in 1080p HD capability. Of course, this won’t be as good as a professional camcorder, but it’s very useful for shot planning, location scouting, and storyboarding.

And when you’re done, the sharing possibilities are endless. Upload to YouTube or Vimeo, a cloud or website, or even play it on a big screen TV using AirPlay.

The iPhone and iPad have brought a lot of new possibilities to the world of video production and I think video production is the best for it.

Expectations strongly influence one’s results.

In Rosenthal’s experiments, scientists went to elementary schools (grades 1 through 4) to test children’s intelligence. After much testing, they discovered truly gifted children who were underachieving, but ready to move on and become exceptional. They informed the teachers that these children were fast, which means that they would exhibit much better performance in a very short time. They would go from below average to exceptional. They told teachers not to tell children they were special, “it could slow or short circuit progress.”

All the tests that the scientists put their children through were just a window dressing for the benefit of the teachers. The scientists did not look at the test results, which meant they had no way of knowing which children were smart. They just used the tests as a credibility booster so that the teachers actually believed that the kids were really fast.

In a few months, the children became the best. The teacher’s high expectations for these children to become stars subtly affected the way she interacted with them, ensuring that these children flourished. This experiment demonstrated that expectations have an impact on outcomes.

Here’s another example, one of my heroes; Marva Collins, who was an inner-city schoolteacher, revolutionized teaching by using expectations. The local school system served disadvantaged and low-achieving children. The main objective of the school system was to “store” these children because they thought that these children were not capable of learning. Marva knew that setting low expectations was part of her problem, so she left the school system to start her own school.

In an interview I saw, Marva said, “I wanted each kid to REALLY BELIEVE that they could succeed. Then I set really high expectations for them. The combination of high expectations and truly believing in themselves allowed them to succeed.

In Marva’s class, if a child misbehaved, she would ask them to go to the side of the room and write down all their wonderful attributes. They had to write an attribute for each letter of the alphabet (AZ). When they rejoined the class, the other kids warned them, “You’d better be good or she’ll make you write another set of nice things about you.”

Expectations have a profound impact on the results we achieve. Before we begin this week, I want you to set high expectations for yourself and those around you, and notice how much more productive you are. Happy selling!

The desensualization of western culture

Introduction

Our culture is being systematically desensualized. We are constantly made to feel guilty for experiencing pleasure. The very definition of the word sensual has been twisted to invoke images of excess, greed, depravity, immorality, or sexual deviance. Delicious food comes with comments and labels like “sinful”, “to die for”, “a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips”. Such language evokes feelings of guilt over the simple enjoyment of food. Our girls are becoming convinced that feeling beautiful or loving their bodies equates to being vain, narcissistic, or conceited. We are being pushed and pushed and pushed to work harder and harder at our jobs, so much so that being sleep deprived, stressed out and time hungry is the norm, and for the few of us who are not motivated. of exhaustion and heart disease are portrayed as lazy, indolent, or otherwise unworthy.

What does it mean?

My favorite dictionary, Webster’s Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language, defines sensuality as: Pertaining to, inclined to, or concerned with the gratification of the senses or appetites… carnal, carnal… Devoid of moral restraints… lewd impudent gold…Arouse or excite the senses or appetites…Then he goes on to explainsensual means, often unfavorably, to the joys derived from the senses, esp. of the gratification or indulgence of physical appetites…

We must not accept this adulterated representation of sensuality. Sensuality is actually attention or focus on the senses and stimuli obtained from the senses. It does not specifically distinguish between negative and positive stimuli. It certainly has nothing to do with self-gratification, immorality, or wickedness. Quite simply, our senses provide the information on which we base our intuitive thoughts, feelings, and desires, or in other words, our common sense. We need our common sense to guide us in cases where strictly analytical or scientific calculations simply won’t do.

What has happened to our common sense, or clear and sound judgment that is independent of knowledge or specialized training that comes from within and is based on conventional wisdom, tradition, or personal philosophies or perspectives? It is under attack, with messages designed to make us let go of our inner wisdom, passions, and desires and allow others to decide for us what we need and want. What is all this? Whether intentionally or not, directly or indirectly, it is about the de-sensualization of our (American) culture.

The role of religion

The word sensual has evolved from a colloquialism rooted in Western puritanical traditions. Because organized religion requires some degree of compliance, albeit often with good intentions, religious authorities upheld certain norms of behavior among adherents through the use of fear, condemnation, and blame. Common sense had to be subdued to achieve a high level of control over followers’ beliefs and experiences. This rigid system of holding on to beliefs often leads to irrational and inflexible decision making. They put forth the idea that even the most innocent pleasures are somehow unholy, ungodly, and the source of misery. The denial of simple pleasure made it possible to dangle a carrot in front of the followers’ noses in the form of a promise of some post-death salvation. This is why organized religion is generally more attractive to the downtrodden and depressed. Keeping followers striving for the impossible, keeping comfort and contentment at bay, and perpetuating the concept of duality was the surest way to maintain order among the masses. As a result, many were afraid to feel and explore their individual truths, and sensual deprivation was seen as the only path to salvation.

The consumer trap

Although in its early days the advertising business may have been somewhat benign, over time it has turned into a hyper-aggressive subversive struggle to get our dollars, by any means necessary. In their relentless pursuit, advertisers hit the jackpot. They found that constantly making people feel inadequate, unattractive, and disconnected, no matter what new gadgets, foods, and cosmetics we consume, is the way to keep money flowing. They created the mad dash to keep up with the Joneses, the eternal rat race and general low self esteem. Temporarily, after each purchase, there may be short-lived satisfaction, but it quickly fades. Everything must be faster, tastier, stronger and more extreme because with each “hit” our senses become more and more muted and dull. In reality, material goods can never fulfill the hopes and fantasies fueled by myths of status, competition, and unlimited consumption as the norm. We become driven not by our own authentic desires, but by the delusional need to compare ourselves and compete against other people. The consumer trap takes us further and further away from our authentic fulfillment and happiness and sucks us into a cycle of perpetual dissatisfaction.

Gluttony and Hedonism

Obsessing over sensual stimulation isn’t healthy either. Some of us unknowingly become desensitized, which ultimately leads to problems like addiction and depression. This is because overindulgence is highly subject to the law of diminishing returns. The more and more we consume, the less and less satisfaction is obtained. For example, if you love pepperoni pizza, the first bite is incredibly enjoyable. But when you’ve almost devoured the entire cake, you no longer savor or appreciate the experience. You may have ruined the experience in such a way that you never want another slice of pepperoni pizza in your entire life.

The solution of sensuality

All this does not mean that we should give up organized religion or purge all material possessions. To experience a more authentic happiness, that is, a genuine happiness that is not tied to any external element or event, as well as to reconnect your senses with your common sense, the solution is terrifyingly simple. The solution is not to become gluttonous or hedonistic, feverishly seeking pleasure for pleasure’s sake.

Take time to recognize and explore your individual sensuality and the creativity and clarity it brings. Right now what do you see? What do you smell? what do you hear What do you taste? How do you feel? Just watch, don’t judge. Take time every day to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Being alone with your thoughts from time to time. Don’t be afraid, they won’t bite you. Enjoy sensual pleasure but enjoy with full awareness. Develop the ability to experience any sensation with your full attention and with appreciation and restraint. These first steps are nothing more than the minimum that can be done to recover sensuality and common sense. To explore more, check out LifeBliss Solutions.
