Have a ragdoll cat
Owning a ragdoll cat should be a very satisfying partnership for both sides, yours because the ragdoll is cute and fluffy and likes to snuggle with you, and theirs because they look cute and fluffy and snuggle with you.
Ragdoll cats are very adorable creatures, usually very attached to their owners, and show this attachment by following them around for days at a time. Trying to hide from a rag cat is useless as it will hunt you down and punish you with more snuggles.
So to have a ragdoll cat is to invite a wonderfully affectionate friend into your home, wonderful, but clingy. It is not an independent cat, it does not go away for days at a time, it does not leave; only to return for dinner instead, they stay close to their loved ones, rarely leaving your side and insisting on as much attention as you choose to give them.
You don’t have a ragdoll cat, it’s part of your family, it’s a close (furry) friend, who refuses to be seen as property, the ragdoll cat does not encourage ownership, but love and affection. Whether someone can really have a cat is up for debate, maybe a dog, but a cat, especially a ragdoll cat, chooses to live with you, not the other way around.
If you choose a ragdoll cat to be your friend, then you are choosing all of the wonderful and strange behaviors of this breed. A ragdoll needs constant companionship, leave him alone for a period of time and he gets very upset, and will surely let you know when he returns home, he has a tendency to become depressed if left alone for long periods of time. And no one wants a depressed cat.
They are too trusting, so you can’t just leave them outside for a while, when they get a bit annoying, as they get into all sorts of trouble. Plus, they cling to you almost constantly, so you’ll probably accidentally step on your ragdoll more than once. With a ragdoll, you have to be constantly on your toes!
Despite their laid-back temperament, they tend to be quite noisy creatures, especially if you’re working or watching TV. They’ll talk to you for hours, “meow this” and “meow that”, and you have no idea what they’re saying, so you just have to nod.
They tend to eat a lot, due to their rather large size, so they are almost always hungry, whatever you’re eating is fair game for a ragdoll, after all, why not share?
But the truth is, many ragdolls end up in rescue centers because the owners didn’t realize how codependent ragdolls can be, while most cats would be fine if someone fed them while you’re on vacation, a ragdoll will need to be placed in a kennel.
And, despite their apparent need for less grooming, many ragdoll owners say regular grooming is still essential; otherwise, expect a ragdoll with knots and matted fur, maybe it all depends on what they do, either way, having a ragdoll cat, or a ragdoll that owns you is a huge responsibility not to be It should be taken lightly, but if you’re willing to put in the hours, you’ll end up with a truly lovely family pet for many, many years to come.
