If we can! Young people step forward

If we can! Young people step forward

The change has begun! The election of Barack Obama as the first African American as president of the most powerful nation in the world signals the great transformation we have all been waiting for. It took the heretofore selfless youth of America to rally millions to elect this 47-year-old half-black, half-white young leader. Now is the right time to bring together all the young people from all over the world to change global thinking.

I think the first step would be a global competition and recognition event called simply “Yes We Can!” This would be a competition that recognizes all the many achievements that young people can achieve in every area of life with a little effort. These small efforts in many areas of effort, such as service, business, sports, etc. for each gender (male/female) in each age group (under 10, 10-15, 15-20, 20-25), and in each ethnic group (African, Asian, Caucasian, Middle Eastern, Latino, Native American ). For example, an entry might be from a 14-year-old African-American girl who helps out at the local animal shelter in her community.

The entry would be a description in 300 words or less of your efforts. The entry would be downloaded from a global Internet “Yes We Can” website and cost $1.00 payable by the youth who could win the entry fee, or apply for a $1.00 scholarship from a supporting sponsor. The symbolic dollar gives value to the ticket for the young person.

The project could be launched by Barack Obama immediately after he takes the oath of office. A governing board would be established to oversee the submissions. The finalists in each category (area of endeavor, gender, age group, ethnic group) would be invited to Washington, DC from anywhere in the world and the final winners would meet at the White House with President Obama, who would announce them at that time. moment. time the “Yes, We Can” person of the year from all the finalists.

There could be 50,000,000 entries, hundreds of finalists, and one grand winner each year. The content of these entries would animate the world, filling books, the Internet and the media with great stories. In short, everyone’s efforts would touch many and help unite the world.
