The Motorola Atrix has an innovative biometric fingerprint scanner

The Motorola Atrix will launch soon and it looks like it will receive a warm welcome from those who like up-to-date technology and high levels of functionality of their devices. Features like a 5-megapixel digital camera, Android operating system, and plenty of internal storage make this great-looking phone a winner in an increasingly competitive smartphone market.

The phone measures 117.8 x 63.5 x 10.1mm, making it slim and also very light at just 135g. The 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen features a 540 x 960 pixel size in which up to 16 million individual colors can be displayed, ensuring superior display quality of on-screen images. The screen is made of Gorilla glass that protects it from daily wear and tear, while proximity and accelerometer sensors are included as standard. Multi-touch input is supported and there is also a touch-sensitive control panel. Another cool feature on the screen is the biometric fingerprint reader that will allow users to simply use their fingerprint instead of entering a password or pin number.

A generous 16GB internal storage is provided along with 1GB of RAM as standard. Additionally, there is a built-in microSD card slot that can accommodate a memory card of up to 32GB, meaning that users can potentially have 48GB of storage capacity at their disposal. This means that Motorola Atrix can easily store a complete collection of digital music along with any number of additional downloaded video clips, documents or applications.

The Motorola Atrix comes with a host of connectivity features, and both GPRS and EDGE are required to keep the phone connected to the appropriate cellular networks. For browsing the Internet, an HSDPA connection provides super fast download speeds of 14.4 Mbps in areas where 3G coverage is available. An alternative method of connecting to the Internet can be achieved thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity that allows users to get an even faster and more reliable connection simply by using available wireless networks. Bluetooth and micro USB connections are also provided to connect the phone to compatible hardware devices while GPS is available to allow functions such as geotagging to work.

A handy 5 megapixel digital camera is available to take high quality images with 2592x 1944 pixel resolution. The camera features autofocus and image stabilization along with an LED flash that overcomes the obstacle of low light conditions. An additional means of image capture comes in the form of 720p quality video capture, however a future software update will allow 1080p video quality to be captured.

Social media integration is provided in the form of Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace applications, while a versatile internal media player is available to support numerous video and music file formats. Support for Adobe Flash 10.1 enables users to enjoy the best of the web, such as embedded games and videos.

Android 2.2 (Froyo) works in conjunction with a 1 GHz processor to provide a versatile user interface and ultra-fast operation. The Motorola Atrix offers an impressive alternative to mainstream smartphone models and is packed with a host of innovative features, which means it’s a phone that is likely to see a lot more in the coming months.
