Cover Letter Sample Alert

In America we refer to it as a cover letter, in Britain they refer to it as a cover letter. Is the same. The main purpose of the cover letter is to get you that interview. It is sent with your CV, which for those who don’t know means curriculum vitae and is the British version of a CV. A cover letter sample is going to do the same thing that a cover letter sample does and that is essentially nothing. A cover letter sample doesn’t contain the IT factor necessary to get you in the door.

Regardless of whether you’re American or British, you still need a good cover letter. We all know that a hiring manager’s time is valuable and spending it reviewing resumes (or CVs) is not how they want to spend their time. They’re looking for reasons to cut the stack of resumes on their desk in half. For example, most of the time, if there is no cover letter, you don’t even look at the resume. This is standard practice in America and also in Britain, even worse, if there is a cover letter, it is poorly written and does not relate to the company or the position at all. You risk finding yourself in that situation if you use a sample cover letter that is not yours.

The key point in writing a good cover letter is to stay focused on the bottom line of landing an interview. You should not be afraid to ask for that interview. Don’t do what most job seekers do these days and that is wait and hope you get a call after your resume is read. You will probably be waiting a long time. You want to make sure there is no question that you will be called in for an interview. Start by addressing your letter to a specific person. Addressing it to a “mr or ma’am” or even worse “to whom it may concern” is a sure way to earn a ticket to nowhere fast.

.Focus on the company and what you can do for the company. You’re going to have to do your research for this one. Focus on showing the company that you understand them and their needs. Focus on selling yourself as the solution to their hiring needs. This can make a big difference to a hiring manager. Show that you have a real interest in the company. There is no way a cover letter sample can do that for you. No matter how much you adjust one, it’s just not worth it. Instead of wasting time trying to modify a cover letter sample, just write it yourself. It is much less of a headache and an annoyance.

You also want to focus your resume a bit. You must show in your cover letter that you meet your qualifications. You not only know them, you know them better than anyone. You need to sell yourself. You need to show the hiring manager that interviewing you is in the best interest of the company. You want to keep this simple but impressive. You don’t have to review every aspect of your resume. List only those that the hiring manager would want to know about. How can a sample cover letter do that for you? There is simply no amount of tweaking you can do to a sample letter that will get it right. Your letter will look rushed, disorganized, and worse, unfocused. Your cover letter sample would be on its way to quickly becoming a friend of the trash can or the shredder.

You are going to end your cover letter by making yourself available for that interview. This is the central point of your cover letter. The interview is the opportunity you need to get the job. You are probably eager to hear from them and let them know that it is not a crime. You want to give them many options to communicate with you. Don’t be afraid to ask for an interview. Don’t be afraid that the hiring manager will say no, it’s not the end of the world.

American or British, applying for a job is something everyone does. You really want your cover letter to stand out from the rest and make a good impression on the hiring manager. Your cover letter is the preview of your CV. You leave your footprints everywhere. You will never find a sample cover letter that has YOU written all over it.
