How well does your puppy know other dogs?
It is very important that your puppy knows other dogs and they can be the same age, older or even younger. Your pup needs to have a wide range of experiences with different types and breeds of dogs. Young or old, big or small, your pup will benefit from contact with other dogs. When you meet another dog, you must be nice and pleasant to him so that he can gain trust. Therefore, he must be selective with whom he meets, otherwise an unpleasant experience will affect his confidence.
It is best to introduce your puppy by choosing calm and friendly dogs that are not too boisterous. When your pup feels comfortable and confident, move on to a broader range of dogs. Your dog should know good natured dogs of all shapes and sizes.
However, try not to be too overprotective as your pup learns more about other dogs. It’s good for him to know that other dogs may ignore him and some will tell him to “go away” with a low growl or a dazzling look. As long as the dog is well-behaved and has a good temperament, he shouldn’t hurt your pup, but he will be teaching him an important lesson in canine manners.
It is also good for your puppy to mix with other animals. People have all kinds of other animals like birds, rabbits, and cats. You will expect slightly different behavior from him. For example, you don’t want him to go near a horse to play or make friends. He needs to know that they exist, but that you are more important. Make sure you are at a distance where your pup is safe and doesn’t get overexcited and can still hear you.
