Look at the many common ingredients used by bait companies and keep in mind that these can all be benchmarks of danger for fish hooked on these or have experienced their brethren hooking on these. No matter what the feeding value of any bait, if it is perceived as a threat, fish will feed more cautiously in its presence or actively avoid consuming it.

Think of the number of carp waters where washed boilies seem to be the way the fish prefer to feed! Think why so many boiled baits are not taken quickly. Instead of fresh baits being taken on first introduction, there may be situations where carp roll over the baits but do not pick them up. The fish feed on your baits, but the fish are actually filter feeders on the dissolved substances released from them (and feed this way in complete safety!)

Fish in high pressure lakes will wait until fresh baits begin to be pre-digested by microbial organisms in lake bed sediment, etc., before confidently consuming. So you should seriously think about making your baits as energy efficient as possible by making your baits as enzyme active as possible!

Such large and cautious fish will definitely feed on baits if they are decomposed and not round in shape. I found this over the years comparing fishing with boiled or steamed intact baits and rotten baits. In the end I opted for fast steam hook baits and uncooked PVA baits and uncooked free baits.

This may sound strange, but when you realize that common materials used in food baits can be reference signals of danger and also represent nutrients and other factors that, due to the volumes that are introduced, the carp are actually not! needs to!

So, try removing several of the most commonly used components and replacing them with new, rare, unique, never used before ingredients, additives, extracts, liquid blends and levels, etc. Be as unique as possible in your creative process. Try to reduce the amount of egg you use and substitute it entirely, especially for free baits. Imagine how much more soluble and digestible your baits will be without eggs. How many eggs can you eat at one time? Think outside the box of what has always been done! Being different has always been a huge advantage in big carp fishing. The off-the-shelf bait marketing industry often tries to funnel their thinking into a one-group mentality of how things should be done!

This leads to most people doing the same things, thinking the same things, and catching the same average number of fish! Try to be exceptional and don’t settle for an average number of fish. You really can catch four times as many fish with enough knowledge of homemade bait design! You can achieve amazing levels of purpose built stimulation within your own unique baits compared to average commercial food boilie baits!
