Why Installing a Stair Edge Is A Must At The Edge Of Any Type Of Step Edge

The durability and safe use of stairs have always been a concern for architects and builders.

The nose of the ladder has existed since the beginning of the 20th century.

For example, if you visit the beautiful Plaza de España in the historic city of Seville in Spain, pay attention to the steps of the stairs that take you to the upper floor from where you get a spectacular view of the palace square. You’ll notice the gorgeous stair edging that inspired stair profile designers today. This magnificent palace was built in the late 1920s.

There is no doubt that you will notice multiple edges in various old buildings with overlapping stone, ceramic, marble or parquet staircases.

The stair rails that are installed on the edge of the stair step covered with ceramic tiles, marble or wood in contemporary buildings and particularly in public ones, such as shopping centers, schools, government institutions, are subject to heavy pedestrian traffic.

Installed on the edge of ceramic or similar stair steps, the aluminum stair trim edge is designed to provide protection to the stone, marble or ceramic tile edge on the stairs by preventing chips and fractures. The use of the stairs is protected, as the steps can be dangerous, especially when they are wet or worn.

A large number of accidents occur when descending stairs when proper attention is not paid. Many of these accidents can lead to serious injuries.

Several models of aluminum stair rails are currently suggested for the protection and safe use of staircases lined with concrete, ceramic, marble, stone or wood:

Stair moldings that install directly over the edge of the concrete step.

Tiled stair moldings with or without replaceable pvc insert, designed for laying ceramic tiles in various thicknesses. These stair slats can only be placed during the tile, marble or stone installation process; as the bottom of the front edge of the trim must be under the ceramic tile to ensure a firm grip.

Durable, built-in ribbed PVC strips that come in a variety of colors (i.e. black, gray, brown or cream) achieve perfect compatibility with ceramic tile colorations and provide better slip resistance.

Retro fit step edges, with or without replaceable vinyl insert that are placed after tile, stone or marble installation.

There are no other important distinctions between the two stair rungs, they both serve the same purpose. Worn steps not only look unsightly, but the safe use of the stairs is also jeopardized. As a consequence, this slip resistant stair nose shape is a perfect choice for updating and renovating existing stairs in poor condition and in need of repair. The worn edges of the ladder would be covered and masked.

The grooves on the top surface of the ladder nose will add a non-slip feature that ensures safe use of the ladders. The use of non-slip stair treads is strongly recommended to protect stair tiles from chipping and to avoid unnecessary costly ceramic tile installation costs afterwards.

An aluminum stair molding placed on the edge of the wooden stair would also be very beneficial. The tread edges of parquet and laminate flooring will be protected from wear and tear and the unsightly appearance of fractured and damaged tread edges will be avoided. Damage to the edges of the staircase and its unsightly appearance, as well as expensive renovations, are later noted.

The various profiles of the stair treads that can withstand a large influx ensure the use of wooden stairs, and their non-slip ribbed top surface and grooves create slip resistance and allow safe use of the stairs.

The risks of slip and fall accidents are reduced, injuries are no longer a concern, and a decorative element is provided that fits perfectly on stairs.

The adapted stair step lip can be attached with glue, tape or rather screwed to tile, stone, parquet or similar flooring to allow a firm and durable grip. When supplied pre-drilled and with countersunk holes, screw installation will be quicker and smoother.
